BENEFITS:

Mullein is an expectorant, which means it helps the body expel excess mucus, usually by helping make your coughs more productive, to bring up mucus that may be settling in the chest or in the throat. It is also a demulcent. Studies show that demulcents create a soothing anti-inflammatory coating over mucous membranes.

Both qualities make it useful for soothing irritation of the lungs, throat, and bronchial passages that may lead to difficulty breathing.

INDICATIONS:

Verbascum species, commonly known as Mullein, have long been utilized in Spanish folk medicine to address various health issues related to the muscles, bones, circulation, digestion, and breathing, as well as to combat infections and sensory organ disorders. It appears that many of the traditional uses of common Mullein(Verbascum) could be attributed to the anti-inflammatory effects of phytochemicals like Quercetin. This may explain why Mullein(Verbascum) is employed in treating various inflammatory-related conditions such as respiratory issues, coughs, asthma, ear infections, joint pain, and rheumatism, making it one of the top herbs for healing.

Mullein has well-established emollient and astringent properties, making it an excellent choice for temperamental earaches and infections.

A study published in The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine concluded that an herbal ear drop with mullein was just as effective as an anesthetic one.

Mullein(Verbascum) can also calm Bursitis. Bursitis is a painful condition that affects the small, fluid-filled sacs (called bursae) that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Bursitis occurs when the bursae become inflamed and research indicates that Mullein(Verbascum) has anti-inflammatory effects.

To help Bursitis naturally, you can simply prepare a warm cloth with Mullein Extract for topical use:

  1. You'll need Mullein Extract, a clean cloth (such as a washcloth or towel), and warm water.
  2. Mix a small amount of Mullein Extract with warm water. You can use a ratio of about 1 part Mullein Extract to 3-4 parts warm water. Adjust the ratio based on your preference and the severity of the condition.
  3. Submerge the clean cloth in the diluted Mullein Extract solution. Make sure the cloth is fully saturated.
  4. Remove the cloth from the solution and gently squeeze out any excess liquid. You want the cloth to be damp but not dripping.
  5. Place the warm, damp cloth over the affected area. Ensure that the cloth covers the entire area of discomfort.
  6. Allow the warm cloth to sit on the skin for about 10-15 minutes, or as long as desired for comfort.
  7. You can reheat the cloth and reapply as needed throughout the day for continued relief.
